A lot of players will bid DN automatically when 11 tricks have
been bid before them. If that is the case with you, the player to
your right can do some serious damage to your score by goading you
into a DNil by overbidding. For example, imagine he holds a handful
of low, low cards plus the AS. He cannot bid Nil, and he doesn't
want to bid 1, so he bids 3 knowing that you will automatically
attempt a (probably) doomed DNil. On the other hand, he could have a
great hand, considered bidding 4, and backed off to only 3 hoping
that you would not go for the DNil.
There are a lot of human factors to consider here. You should
sometimes bid DNil when 11 tricks are bid before you, but not
always. Mix it up a little so that your opponents cannot safely
bluff you. Look at your cards once in a while on an 11-bid. Don't
let your opponents bid for you. |
