Great hand here. You have most of the suits blocked, with
potential to take extra tricks by cutting and finessing, and enough
low balls to dodge sandbags if necessary. The AD is 96% likely to
take the first Diamond trick, or about 77% likely to take the second
Diamond trick if held over. Bear in mind that you are the first to
lead. With a handful of stoppers, you want someone else to lead,
such that you can absorb enemy high cards and potentially finesse
your QH. The best opening lead is probably the 5D (depending on how
the other players bid), so count the AD as 77%. The AH is 92% likely
to take the first Heart trick, or roughly 67% likely to take a
latter trick. Again, you may be able to finesse the QH too. As for
Spades, you are almost certain to win two. Your Club void may result
in one more. Be wary — your partner may count on Club tricks too.
5 is a good bid here. 4 is conservative, but in line with a
strategy to sandbag your opponents. 6 is a little too optimistic,
and it may encourage your partner to put everything on the line and
bid DN (not that that is a terrible thing). |
