The bonus for bidding and making ten tricks is a Spades option that comes in several versions, but no expert would want to play Spades without this option in any of its forms.

West did not think his hand was worth a five bid, but the other three players said it was. "Okay, y'all convinced me. I'll go five."

The heart lead rode to West's ten, and, ignoring the nil, he continued the ace and jack. East overtook with the king and returned the deuce of hearts, ruffed and overruffed. West now correctly led a spade.

East won the queen and shifted to a diamond, West winning. A second spade lead went to the king and South's now bare ace. This was the only trick South made, and East-West cruised easily to earn their ten-trick bonus. But they only made one overtrick; there was a surprise at the finish. The thirteenth trick was won by North, whose jack of spades had somehow become master!
