Bag-avoiders have a cute trick. They withhold the last spade until the finish, giving the opponents all the bags. This ploy can please both sides.

East cashed one heart and led a club to North's ten. North switched to the ten of diamonds, which fetched the king and ace. West led to her partner's ace of hearts, ruffed the club return, and cashed the ace of spades for her side's fifth trick. She then led the jack of spades to set up her sixth.

South won the king and queen of spades; on this trick East threw the queen of diamonds. Now North and South were stuck on lead. West did not play her trump until the final trick.

East and West were happy that the opponents were stuck with all the bags. North and South were relieved they weren't set, since either East or West could have stuck it to them after South played the third spade.

I suppose East-West were happier with the actual result than they'd be with a set. The set would give them three of those dreaded bags!
