BOHICA (Bend Over, Here It Comes Again)

Remember the pair that scored 230 points when the rest of the field was allowing both opponents to make their bids? Well, here they are, same tournament, two boards later. As the results come in, North/South pairs are consistently making nil + 3 when lo, another 230-0 score shows up. Let's see how E/W did it this time.

North led the 6

North's nil is certainly aggressive, but that's how you have to bid 'em in duplicate. South's 4-bid cannot be recommended either, and she paid doubly for such aggressiveness.

The 6 was covered by the 9 and won by West's King. With nothing better to do, West returned the 2, which drew the 4 and 5. Fearing this was her last chance to win the Ace, South won the trick. The K went to the A, and now a third heart quickly put North out of his misery.

So much for North. Now the attack was aimed at South. North's Q was trumped by South's 7 and overtrumped with the 9. West played the king and another spade, East's ace dropping the last of the enemy trumps. South managed to win two more diamonds, but fell one trick short of her 4-bid. East and West posted another 230-point score.
